Lieutenant Kari Rea Promoted to Captain

Captain Rea began working for the Cedar Falls Police Department in 2001 as a part-time Community Service Officer while attending the University of Northern Iowa. Captain Rea began her career as a Cedar Falls police officer in 2002 and was promoted to the rank of lieutenant in 2018. During her career Captain Rea has been assigned to all patrol shifts, the investigative unit, municipal code enforcement, bike patrol team, Field Training Officer and Supervisor, Special Victims Response Team liaison, Operation Threshold board member, and as the department’s crisis intervention instructor. Captain Rea received the Officer of the Year award in 2013 and RJ Voss Supervisor of the Year award in 2025. Captain Rea is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa and Northwestern University Center for Public Safety’s School of Police Staff and Command.

Officer Adam Hancock Promoted to Lieutenant

Lieutenant Hancock began his career as a Cedar Falls police officer in 2018. During his career Lieutenant Hancock has worked all three patrol shifts and the investigative unit. He is a Field Training Officer, Drug Recognition Expert, and SWAT team member. Lieutenant Hancock holds instructor certifications for Standardized Field Sobriety Testing and Radar/Lidar enforcement. Lieutenant Hancock received the Officer of the Year award in 2021. Lieutenant Hancock is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa.
