A severe thunderstorm that rolled through Cedar Falls on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, left behind downed trees and branches.

About 15 crews from the city fanned out around town to remove the debris.

Brett Morris, the city’s parks supervisor, in a live update by Amanda Huisman, the city’s spokesperson and host of a podcast called, “Hello, Cedar Falls,” said that city crews cleared up some roads on Wednesday from 7: 30 to 11 p.m.

“All hands on deck,” he said, referring to the concerted effort to clear the debris and the roads.

Morris said that there are no roads that are “completely closed” and added that in some locations, traffic flows one way.

Drivers should be extra cautious travelling along impacted roads as the city tries to clear up the debris, Huisman advised.

“There is a substantial amount of limbs that are down,” she said.

The cleanup is expected to go on all day Thursday and into Friday, Morris added.

He noted that in the next week, the city will assess the condition of the damaged trees and decide how to proceed.
