CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The UNI women’s tennis team kicked off home competition on Friday, facing St. Thomas in a tightly contested matchup. Despite strong effort and standout performances in both singles and doubles, the Panthers narrowly fell to the Tommies, 4-3.
In singles play, the Panthers secured two victories out of six matches. Senior Darta Dalecka delivered a dominant performance, defeating Marthe Degorges 6-4, 6-0. Andjela Raznatovic battled in her match and earned a hard-fought straight-sets win over Jannah EINemr, 6-4, 7-6. Kanyanut Sudsaard competed hard in both sets against Tentu, S, but narrowly fell short, dropping both sets 7-5.
Lorena Cardoso faced a tough challenge against Caroline Lindahl, ultimately falling 6-1, 6-1. Kim Zizek and Lasya Mylavarapu also fought hard in closely contested matches but were unable to secure wins for the Panthers. Zizek was defeated by Anna Sidorenko, 6-2 in both sets, while Mylavarapu fell to Lily Olson, 6-2, 6-3.
In doubles play, the Panthers claimed victory in two of three matches. The number one duo, Dalecka and Cardoso battled to a hard-fought 7-6 win over Degeorges and Regina. Zizek and Raznatoviv also secured a tight win, defeating Tentu, S. and Olson 7-6. Meanwhile, Sudsaard and Mylavarapu came up just short in a close 7-5 loss to Caroline Lindahl and Ingrid Forsberg.

The Panthers will host SIU Edwardsville on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 10 a.m. CT at the Black Hawk Tennis Center.
