The City of Cedar Falls is excited to announce Cedar Falls Earth Week from April 16-22. Organizations, businesses, and citizens are all invited to make a difference through clean-up events, conservation activities, and education to help keep our community beautiful. In celebration of the fifth year of Cedar Falls Earth Week, the City will host the first Cedar Falls Earth Fair on April 12.

Citywide Clean-Up

Cedar Falls Earth Week encourages all businesses, organizations, individuals, and neighborhoods to participate by conducting an organized clean-up activity and picking up litter in their areas. Businesses that would like to get involved can email Amanda.Huisman@cedarfalls.com. The top three organizations to bag the most trash will get a special award and visit from Cedar Falls Mayor Danny Laudick.

Participants can get clean-up gear including free blue 30-gallon collection bags at the Public Works Complex (2200 Technology Parkway), Transfer Station (1524 State Street), City Hall (220 Clay Street), the Rec Center (110 East 13th Street), and the Hearst Center for the Arts (304 West Seerley) during normal business hours. Once filled, the blue bags can be brought to the Transfer Station or deposited near the shelter areas at Overman Park, Holmes Park, Clay Street Park, Valley Park area (near the Cedar Falls Skate Park), Neighbors Park, and Pfeiffer Park for pick-up; for other areas please contact Public Works at (319) 273-8629 to arrange a special pick-up. Participants are reminded that trash must be bagged and secured before placing it for collection. Please do not overfill trash bags, and always ensure they are tied tightly at the top.

Earth Fair – Saturday, April 12

The City is partnering with local environmental organizations to host the first Cedar Falls Earth Fair on Saturday, April 12, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Gateway Park (1st and Main Street). The event will include a rain barrel workshop, seed planting station, and nature-themed crafts for kids. A lunch of hot dogs and chips will be provided. The City will be giving away free prairie seed packets and tree saplings.

During the event, guests can visit educational booths and enjoy displays and activities from the Center for Energy and Environmental Education, Black Hawk County Conservation, Black Hawk County Solid Waste Management, Black Hawk Soil and Water Conservation District, Cedar Falls Utilities, Steven Eilers- Horticulture and Natural Resource Coordinator at Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Black Hawk County, and Cedar Falls Public Works. Topics will include composting, gardening, pollinator and tree plantings, recycling, and more.
